Previously, he served as CEO at EmCare Acute Care Surgery and Acute Surgical Care Specialists, where he led critical care and acute surgery operations. Dr. Josephs earned his M.D. from UT Southwestern Medical Center and completed a Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health Science Center. His background in military and protective services adds to his expertise in high-pressure medical environments. He remains a visionary in acute care and healthcare consulting, focused on delivering patient care excellence and operational efficiency.

Mr. Josephs is the President of Extant Healthcare, LLC, with extensive experience in corporate management, healthcare operations, and strategic growth. He previously served as COO of EmCare Surgical Services (2012–2015) and was the Founding President of Acute Management (2006–2011), leading its expansion and successful acquisition by EmCare. Earlier, as Executive Director at Redstone Interests, Inc., he spent 17 years driving business development and strategic consulting. Based in Dallas/Fort Worth, Charles is known for building high-impact teams and leading organizations toward sustainable growth through innovation and strong leadership.

Mr. Standifird is the CFO and COO of Extant Healthcare, a Denver-based company focused on building and managing trauma programs nationwide. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare finance, he specializes in financial operations, strategic planning, and organizational growth. Previously, Jason held senior roles at Envision Healthcare, including EVP of Financial Operations, CFO of EmCare, and Chief Accounting Officer, gaining deep expertise in complex healthcare financial systems. He holds a Finance and Accounting degree from Boston College and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). At Extant, Jason leads financial strategy and operations to support high-quality trauma care delivery.

Dr. Kurek Jr., D.O., F.A.C.S., is the Chief Medical Officer of Extant Healthcare, where he oversees clinical quality and collaborates with leadership to optimize trauma care across the organization’s national network. A board-certified general and critical care surgeon, Dr. Kurek brings over 30 years of experience in trauma and acute care surgery. He previously served as Trauma Medical Director at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, and was named one of Richmond’s Top Trauma Doctors in 2022. He also serves as a professor of surgery at VCOM and was the Associate Program Director of the Chippenham & Johnston-Willis Hospitals General Surgery Program. Dr. Kurek is a former president of EAST and earned his D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his surgical training at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, Temple University, and a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at Lehigh Valley Hospital/Penn State.

Ms. Weaver is the Chief Human Resources at Extant Healthcare, known as the organization's trusted “people person.” She joined in 2019 after a 15-year career with Envision Physician Services, where she helped grow the Surgical Services line under Dr. John Josephs. Jamie specializes in recruiting top-tier physicians and medical professionals across trauma surgery, orthopedics, burn care, urology, and emergency medicine. Throughout her career, she has successfully recruited over 230 surgeons and 200+ advanced practice providers, helping to build and stabilize more than 40 trauma programs nationwide. She holds a B.S. in Health Science from San Francisco State University and a Master’s in Human Resource Management. Jamie lives in Boise, Idaho, with her husband and two daughters.

Dr. Paul F. Merkle, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon with over 34 years of experience. A graduate of the Keck School of Medicine (USC), he completed his residency at LA County + USC Medical Center. He treats hip, femur, tibial, and femoral neck fractures, as well as performing hip replacements. Affiliated with several Texas medical centers, including those in Corpus Christi and Odessa, Dr. Merkle is known for his compassionate care, clear communication, and bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.

Ms. Nichols is the Director of Operations at Extant Healthcare, where she oversees daily operations and strategic initiatives. With a strong background in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, she previously held leadership roles at Envision Physician Services, including Director of Operations and Regional Practice Manager. Earlier in her career, Sheena worked in management and marketing across various specialties—family practice, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, and ambulatory surgery centers. Her experience in building and managing private practices laid the foundation for her success. Known for her cross-functional leadership and process improvement skills, Sheena continues to drive operational excellence in healthcare.

Ms. White is the Senior Director of Business Development at Extant Healthcare, leading nationwide growth efforts. Based in Dallas, Texas, she brings over a decade of healthcare experience, with expertise in scaling startups, managing enterprise client relationships, and delivering innovative solutions across the provider, payer, and benefits space. With a background that spans Fortune 200 companies and high-growth ventures, Erica offers a strategic, well-rounded perspective. She holds a degree in Communications and Spanish from Texas A&M University and is known for her collaborative leadership and impact-driven approach.
